I'm Sorry

Mitt liv med hund og mitt arbeid for dyrs rettigheter danner verdigrunnlag for bildene mine og er med på å gi materiale til historiene.
I kunsthistorien er hunden ofte brukt som symbol på trofasthet. I utstillingen "I'm Sorry" forteller dyrene i tegningene noe om menneskets mangel på trofasthet.
Mine tegninger inviterer til intim omgang med studier av naturen og menneskenes inngrep.
I tegningene bruker jeg et figurativt formspråk i et vell av sorte og grå mønstre, landskap, figurer og skapninger i myriadisk detaljrikdom.
Elementer fra naturen brukes som en nøytraliserende faktor opp mot det groteske i funnet dokumentarisk materiale.
Symboler fra kunsthistorie og dokumentarisk bilde- og tekstmateriale underbygger og forsterker budskapet.
Umiddelbart kan bildene fremstå som naive og sentimentale, men i detaljene er det tegnet inn kommentarer som gir flere tolkningsmuligheter.
Bildene er laget ut fra en følelse av uro og bittelitt humor. Jeg vil skape en uforutsigbar strøm av assosiasjoner, bilder som virker forstyrrende på blikket og tanken.

Mitt utgangspunkt for denne utstillingen er historien om den russiske romhunden Laika. For 50 år siden ble romskipet Sputnik med Laika om bord sendt ut i rommet.
Hun kom aldri tilbake. Professor Oleg Gazenko ansvarlig for opplæring av Russlands romfartshunder uttalte 40 år etter Laikas død:
"The more time passes, the more I'm sorry about it. We did not learn enough from this mission to justify the death of the dog."

I'm Sorry (English text)

My life with dogs and my work for animal rights form the basic values of my pictures and contribute material to their stories.
Throughout the history of art, the dog has been used as a symbol of loyalty. I my show "I'm Sorry" the animals in the drawings speak instead of the disloyalty of humans.
My drawings invite to an intimate relation with drawn studies of Nature and human intervention.
In my drawings I use a figurative pictorial language in a torrent of black and grey patterns, landscapes, figures and creatures in myriad detail.
Elements from nature are used as a neutralizing factor set against the grotesque of found documentary material.
Symbols from art history and documentary image- and text material underpins en enhances the message.
At first glance, the pictures may seem naïve and sentimental, but into the details are drawn commentary that encourages other interpretations.
The pictures are made from a sense of restlessness and a little bit humor. I want to create an unpredictable flow of associations, pictures that are disturbing to both gaze and mind.

My starting point for this exhibition was the story of Laika, the astronaut dog. 50 years ago, Laika was launched into space on the Sputnik.
She never returned. Professor Oleg Gazenko, who was responsible for training Russia's space dogs, said 40 years after the death of Laika:
"The more time passes, the more I'm sorry about it. We did not learn enough from this mission to justify the death of the dog."
